For this year's Winners Trip, we're making it rain(forest)...

We’re heading to the Amazon, a place Misha and GISH HQ have always wanted to experience for ourselves. Some people say it’s the lungs of the planet, but we now know it is actually the heart of it with one of, if not the, most biodiverse regions on the planet. Over 3 million species live in the rainforest and over 2500 tree species. We want to add one more species: Gishers.

We will take this year’s winning team on an excursion of a lifetime to Ecuador.
In 2021, GISH raised over $112,000 for communities on the front lines of resisting Amazon destruction. GISH’s work, in solidarity with Amazon Watch and indigenous earth defenders, directly supporting frontline communities in territories destroyed by the extraction industry, to safe places and provided vital resources.
We’re working with Amazon Watch to make sure our Winner’s Trip dollars support indigenous communities and businesses in their continued mission to permanently protect the Amazon. Ecuador sits at the intersection of Amazon rainforests, Amazon river, the Andean highlands, and the wildlife-rich Galápagos Islands. It has a rich cultural history and stunning landscapes.

Join GISH and you could experience places that only exist in your dreams and see animals you’ve only read about in books!

We are partnering with Amazon Watch to ensure an experience led by indigenous knowledge and stewardship of the Amazon biome.

Amazon Watch works in collaboration with Indigenous peoples through direct solidarity grantmaking through our Amazon Defenders Fund. In the last three years, the organization has sent $4.7M directly to Indigenous peoples, leaders and communities to support their priorities for their territories. Amazon Watch is continuing this trajectory of growth for years to come.

Last year, GISH supporters provided solidarity funding to Indigenous peoples and frontline communities whose ancestral territories and current homes were destroyed by extractive industries. GISH support recognizes how linked we all are to destruction in the Amazon, because of the effects on our climate and also because the extractive industries causing much of the destruction in the Amazon are driven by consumption in the US and other countries.

The Amazon is the heart pump of our global weather system, enshrines massive swaths of biodiversity, stores and sequesters carbon, and even affects wildfires in the western US. Over 511 Indigenous nations live there and have been stewarding the Amazon for millennia. Now, we are at the tipping point of the ecosystem, with three years left to permanently protect the remaining rainforest to avert the worst effects of the climate crisis.

GISH is proud to take our 2022 Winners on voyage to meet with the incredible defenders of not just the Amazon, but the health and wellness of our entire planet.
